Analyzing Peter Skrzynecki’s Poems Feliks Skrzynecki and Postcard Essay

Peter Skrzynecki's poems " Feliks Skrzynecki" and " Postcard" both explore complex idea about that belong. Both poetry suggest that that belong comes from an association to place and individuals, people can make to belong and that belonging can be customized over time. Feliks in Philip Skzynecki's composition " Feliks Skzynecki" feels a close link with places and individuals. He is defined at the beginning of the poem as loving " his garden like an simply child", sweeping " their paths/ 10 times around the world. " The simile and hyperbole stir up a sense of his dedication to his backyard and his paternal feelings toward it, hooking up to this place like a father connects to an only child. His perception of that belong also comes from his close connection to his Polish good friends who " reminisced/ Regarding farms wherever paddocks flowered/ […] Mounts they carefully bred […]. " The cumulation of positive verbs conveys a sense of their reminiscence and shared pride within their cultural historical past; a historical past that attaches them collectively and encourages a sense of belonging. Belonging is definitely central to how we establish ourselves: the belonging to or perhaps connections with individuals, places and groups allows one to produce a distinct personality characterised simply by affiliation, acceptance and relationship. Skrzynecki (pronounced sher-neski), straddles a dichotomy; that of identity and disconnection. On the one hand, the father represents an alienation experienced by an older migrant, as the son experience the progressive integration in a new contemporary society. This is a subdued poem in homage to his father, a common labourer, whose dignity, integrity and determined principles keep a lasting impression on his son. Feliks will not dance to the dominant melody as proved by the altered cliché " kept rate only with all the Joneses/Of his own mind's making-" He's a man whom lives by his personal standards, a nonconformist, not influenced by those about him. Inspite of his outwardly toughness, Peter claims him as " My delicate father” and " the softness of his green eyes”,...
